Jongmyo Daije and a sunny sunday

Sunday morning, after a tiring but fulfilling Saturday, I was meeting Ha for Jongmyo Daije.
The event takes place in a shrine every first Sunday on May. Last year, I missed it because of bad luck, so this year, I was quite eager to see it!
By the way, Ha is a KDI MPP student, but she used to be in my ACA workshop group in Gwangju, and worked as a researcher for the Ministry of Culture in Vietnam, and worked on local festivals and rituals in Vietnam, so she was the perfect candidate to hang along with for this type of ritual!
So, of course, lunch time was devoted to chatting, exchange of very very strategic info (hin hin), around a bowl of kalgosuk.
We were early enough for the ceremony, to get seats on the floor… and have a view on the ceremony. The ceremony itself was gorgeous, with all the costumes and music. I recorded the music and took lots of pics. Sooo, again, if you want to hear it, teach me how to create a podcastJ
Unfortunately, the organisers have no consideration for the music, so they love shouting “sit down sit down”, and I guess I have mumbled “shut up, f…. ajoshi”, a hundred times. Besides loads of things happened inside, and viewers of the ceremony could not watch that.
Anyway, it was worth seeing it!

After that, Ha and I went to the Comfort Zone to meet Hanna and her friends Loretta (Canadian living in LA), Oleg (Russian) and Sofia (Bulgarian). Was nice to meet them. Then Ha, Hanna and Loretta left, I hanged around Hyewha, introduced these new friends to the Cats’ Bar and we had a delicious Bengladeshi meal (Thanks Jamali for the wonderful dinner!). We’ve also been to Comfort Zone again, where I bumped again into the first people I met from the Cat’s bar (Kala from Sweden and XXX the Russian). Small small world.

The afternoon and evening was wonderful. I loved the weekend. Wish there will be more stuff like that in the near future. Why don’t WE last for ever, he?

Dimanche matin, après un samedi crevant mais épanouissant, je retrouvais Ha pour aller voir Jongmyo Daije. La cérémonie a lieu une fois par an, tous les premiers dimanches du mois de mai. L’année dernière, j’avais loupé la chose, donc cette année, fallait absolument que je voie ça (souris en mode tête de mule).
Ha est une vieille amie du workshop de Gwangju, qui travaillait auparavant pour le Ministère de la Culture en tant que chercheuse au Vietnam et qui maintenant est en MPP à KDI. Elle était donc la personne idéale pour venir à ce type de cérémonie, ayant elle même monté ce type d’événement au Vietnam.
Bien sûr, l’heure du déjeuner fut consacrée aux bavardages, aux échanges d’infos supra stratégiques (hin hin) autour d’un bol de kalgosuk.
Nous étions arrivées suffisamment tôt pour pouvoir poser notre derrière par terre, et avoir une bonne vue sur la cérémonie. Cette cérémonie était magnifique à voir, pour les costumes, les instruments, la musique… J’ai enregistré la musique sur mp3, donc si vous m’apprenez à créer un podcast, pour les intéressés…
Seul bémol : les organisateurs ne respectaient pas vraiment la musique, hurlant à pleins poumons « asseyez vous », et mon enregistrement doit être mâtiné de « shut up f… ajoshis ». En plus, plusieurs moments de la cérémonie se passaient en intérieur, à l’abri du regard des spectateurs. Dommage !
M’enfin, quoi que j’en dise, j’ai été ravie de voir cette cérémonie.

Après ça, Ha et moi avons rejoint Hanna et ses amis, Loretta (Canadienne vivant à LA), Oleg (Russe) et Sofia (Bulgare). Après midi pépère et agréable à la terrasse du comfort Zone. Ensuite, j’ai présenté le désormais célèbre cats’ bar de Hyewha à mes nouveaux amis, et Jamila (Bengladesh) nous a invités pour un délicieux dîner de cuisine du Bengladesh (miam miam. Merci Jamali, mes papilles en réclament encore !). Ensuite, nous avons fini la soirée au Comfort Zone, parce que les chats nous ont boudés !

Un week end donc vraiment agréable, pourquoi est-ce que les WE passent si vite ????
